YULE LADS, CHRISTMAS CAT

Jólakötturinn or the Yule Cat is the terrifyingly huge and hungry feline who prowls around during Yuletide in search of someone to scare, or maybe even to eat! Icelanders discovered that the Yule Cat could be kept away by making sure everyone gets a new piece of clothing during the holidays. But why this works is still quite mystifying.
