Inhale/ DVD
Inhale (also known as Run for Her Life), directed by Baltasar Kormákur and released in 2010, is a dark thriller focusing on the desperate, illegal measures a couple takes to save their terminally ill daughter.
Plot Summary The Crisis: Paul Stanton (Dermot Mulroney), a Santa Fe district attorney, and his wife, Diane (Diane Kruger), are facing the imminent death of their young daughter, Chloe (Mia Stallard), who suffers from a rare, terminal lung disease and is low on the transplant waiting list.
The Investigation: Frustrated by the legal system, Paul investigates a rumor about illegal organ transplants in Mexico. He discovers that a high-profile acquaintance, James Harrison (Sam Shepard), obtained a heart through this illicit, black-market network. The Descent: Paul travels to Juarez, Mexico, to find a mysterious doctor referred to as "Navarro".
He plunges into a dangerous, crime-ridden underworld, interacting with corrupt police officers (Jordi Mollà) and a young boy who acts as a guide. The Ethical Dilemma: Paul finds the doctor, Dr. Martinez (Vincent Perez), and pays for a lung.
He discovers that the "donors" in this operation are not deceased, but are victims—often living people—who are harvested for their organs.
Paul is forced to choose between saving his daughter's life and stopping a criminal's fatal operation.
The Climax & Ending: Paul struggles with the decision to proceed. Ultimately, the film concludes with a scene of the couple at their daughter's funeral, with the implication that the operation did not save her or that Paul could not go through with it, leaving the parents deeply scarred.
The film also highlights the contrast between the affluent American parents and the poor, vulnerable victims in Mexico.
