5 - 105 years old. The Icelandic horse has endured a lot in a thousand years of service to a cold-tempered nation in a cold country. He has trodden through lava, crossed parts of the country, crashed on an outdoor walkway, drowned in glacial rivers, and even walked again. Here the most needed servant steps forward just as he is and has been ever since the first plump mare stepped feebly on the Icelandic shore in the late ninth century; free from competition, exaltation, and pride.
