Important Update for Our EU Customers – New Customs Duties and Fees from November 1, 2026

At Nammi.is, we love bringing the taste of Iceland to customers around the world. Whether you're ordering your favorite Icelandic chocolate, traditional candy, licorice, or other Icelandic specialties, we want your shopping experience to be as enjoyable and straightforward as possible.

We would like to inform our customers in the European Union about important changes to EU customs regulations that may affect the cost of receiving orders shipped from Iceland.

What's Changing on November 1, 2026?

The European Union is introducing new customs handling fees for online purchases shipped from countries outside the EU, including Iceland.

There are two important changes customers should know about:

1. New €3 Customs Duty – Effective July 1, 2026

The EU introduced a customs duty of €3 per distinct product category for qualifying shipments valued at €150 or less.

This means the duty is generally calculated according to the different types of products declared in a shipment, rather than simply the number of individual products.

2. New €2 Customs Handling Fee – Effective November 1, 2026

Starting November 1, 2026, an additional €2 handling fee will apply per distinct item category declared in a shipment entering the EU.

Unlike the €3 customs duty, the new handling fee also applies to shipments valued above €150.

These charges are introduced by the European Union and are not additional fees created by Nammi.is.

What Does This Mean for Your Nammi.is Order?

As Iceland is not part of the EU Customs Union, orders shipped from Iceland to EU countries are subject to EU import procedures.

Depending on the products ordered, the value of the shipment, and applicable customs arrangements, your order may be subject to:

  • Customs duties

  • The new EU customs handling fee

  • Import VAT at the applicable rate in your country

  • Additional customs clearance or carrier processing charges, where applicable

Certain Icelandic-origin products may qualify for preferential customs treatment under trade agreements between Iceland and the EU.

An Example of the New Charges

For a qualifying order valued below €150 containing three different product categories, the standard charges could be:

Charge Amount
Customs duty (€3 × 3 categories) €9
New handling fee (€2 × 3 categories) €6
Total €15

This example excludes VAT and any additional carrier charges. Actual charges may vary depending on the customs classification and origin of the goods.

Who Collects These Fees?

The new EU customs charges are part of European customs regulations.

Depending on the shipping and customs arrangements, the applicable costs may be included during checkout or collected as part of the import and delivery process.

We recommend that EU customers review any import charges associated with their orders.
